Cycling and walking routes

Cycling

If you love cycling, then the Krakeling is your starting point. The Utrechtse Heuvelrug is one of the most versatile areas in the Netherlands, making it perfect for a cycling adventure. One moment you are cycling through a vast forest area, the next you will pass a beautiful castle where you can have lunch and a few moments later you are in the centre of Utrecht. Everything is within cycling distance! Many beautiful cycling routes can be found in the area. And even better: they mostly start in the immediate vicinity of our park.

On this page, you will find the most incredible cycling routes starting in Zeist.

Some suggestions: go on a cycling adventure through neighbouring places such as Doorn, Veenendaal, Wijk bij Duurstede and Rheenen. These are medium-sized villages, each with their own look and feel. Or take a tour of the castles and country estates in the area. The National Military Museum is also within cycling distance.

For cyclists and mountain bike riders, the Utrechtse Heuvelrug is the ultimate area. From our park, the mountain bike route will take you along a challenging trail through the woods. You can choose different lengths so there is something for every fitness level. Vignettes that allow access to the various routes in the area are available at our reception desk.

The rolling countryside is also perfect for cycling. The Amerongseberg is less than 20 kilometres away and should definitely be included in your adventure!

Hiking

The Utrechtse Heuvelrug is one of the most beautiful areas for endless walking and hiking opportunities. From our park, you can directly hike into a vast forest full of peace and nature. In addition, there are also several walking routes that are accessible for e.g. mobility scooters, rollators, wheelchairs or prams.

We have jotted down various routes for every type of hiker .

Would you like to take your dog for a walk? Dogs are allowed in the Zeisterbos, Baarnse Bos as well as the forests of Austerlitz and Laarsenberg and there are areas that are specially designated by Staatsbosbeheer (the Dutch Forestry Commission) so that your dog can run free. But please do leash your dog in areas where this is requested.
